Welcome!

Thank you so much for your interest in these live online classes. I’ve listed the highlights below, and the results speak for themselves.

Not only have attendees written delightful tales, revived stagnant, dusty manuscripts, won a few ribbons, and become published authors, but they’ve also made friends among an intimate group of dedicated writers.

Some began where you may be now -- looking for inspiration to get started or encouragement to finish.

Maybe you’ve always wanted to write, but life seemed to get in the way. Or maybe friends and family have often said, “You need to write a book!” But the stars weren’t aligned, and besides, how would you ever find the time?

You may have experienced that dreaded feeling which causes night sweats. You know the one -- shh, fear!

I’ll be the first to admit that writing isn’t always a breeze. It seldom is. But I have a tiny, engraved sign on my desk that reads, “Look in the mirror. That’s your only competition.” I find it reassuring -- most of the time.

Reminder: Writers get better by writing. Period.

  • These classes are for the creative writer who wishes to pen delightful short stories, a collection of life experiences, or work on a novel. In the past years, a few essays and biographies have surfaced too.
  • Assignments are emailed the week before each class. This includes a prompt to encourage your lovely words. To date, the photo prompts seem the favorite, most of which I’ve shot on walks or bike rides around my neighborhood.
  • Whether the assignments are used in fiction or creative nonfiction, most lessons will pertain to both. Engaging the reader is the primary goal.
  • We write at least one story during each 6-week session, or you may continue work on a current project.
  • You will want to share your writing with others in the class. Just think of us as your intimate group of beta readers.
  • Suggestions for improving the story's setting, dialogue between characters, or fluidity of the story will be shared with individuals. An overview of the week’s lesson with tips and reminders will also be included with the next week’s assignment.

Join me on this journey. I think you’ll be glad you did. Space is limited, though, and should you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to me -- just not between 3:00-5:00 on most Mondays. :) See you in class!
